Let’s talk about how you can realign your mindset to partner with God effectively. Realigning your mindset is crucial when you want to make any change or take any action in your life. If you want to live a purpose-aligned life, you need to partner with God to make that happen.
Right now, your life may not look the way you want it to.
- Your desires can seem enormous.
- Your current efforts aren’t yielding the results you crave.
- You want to make changes in your life.
- You need a plan to make those changes.
- You want your actions to reflect what you truly desire.
Here’s the thing. When you realign your mindset, you can change anything about your life with God’s help. The truth is, when you partner with God, He will help you achieve extraordinary things.
Not too long ago, the leaders of my women’s Bible study class were given a homework assignment.
- We were told to write prayers using several different kinds of scripture: life, hope, trust, and faith.
- We were also given a challenge scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
As I worked on the assignment, I realized that trusting wasn’t my issue. However, I often relied on my own understanding. When I did that, I wasn’t truly trusting the Lord.
Imagine two chairs. Jesus is sitting in the first chair, saying, “Tell me what you want; I can help.” I’m sitting in the second chair, saying, “Let me figure it out, and I’ll get back to you.”
But the second chair is not how it’s supposed to work. That’s not how you change what’s not working in your life. And that’s certainly not how you reach your goals.
God wants us to be like Nehemiah.
Nehemiah had a big dream. He wanted to leave his job as cupbearer to the king to rebuild his people’s city wall. He had heard that his people in Judah were in great distress – the wall of Jerusalem was broken, and the city was in ruins.
His heart was broken.
So, he asked God for an opportunity to help his people. He confessed the people’s sins to God but reminded God of everything He had done for them.
Nehemiah then asked God to give him favor with the king. And God answsered that prayer.
God created the opportunity. Nehemiah asked the king for help. The king granted Nehemiah’s request and provided the supplies and permissions needed.
The wall was rebuilt, the exiles returned to a secure city, and the people recommitted to God’s law.
If we want to be more like Nehemiah and less like our old selves, here’s what we need to do:
- Identify What’s Not Working
- Before you can fix a problem, you have to know what it is.
- Nehemiah recognized the walls of Jerusalem needed rebuilding to keep the city and its people safe.
- Get specific about your present circumstances and what you want instead, just like Nehemiah.
- Partner with God
- Once Nehemiah recognized the problem, he took it to God.
- Whatever you want to change or bring into your life, partner with God.
- Nehemiah was a cupbearer to the king and needed God’s help. Be bold like Nehemiah and take your problem to God. Expect Him to answer. Stop thinking you have to figure it all out by yourself.
- Take Action
- Knowledge is power, but transformation only happens when you act on that knowledge.
- Nehemiah recognized the problem, partnered with God, and then took action.
- There are no magic wands or genies with three wishes. You have to do the work.
- Doing the work means taking action on what God tells you to do.
The bottom line is this: If you want to live a more purposeful life, you have to realign your mindset from “I can figure this out all by myself” to “God can help me; I just need to ask.” You can only do that by realigning your mindset and partnering with God.
By embracing these steps and seeking God’s guidance, you can transform your life and achieve your purpose. As you walk this path, trust in His plans and His power.
