Do you have a dream to do something, be something or go somewhere? The Bible tells us that dreams have several purposes. Dreams can restrain us from evil (Genesis 20:13), reveal God’s will (Genesis 28:11- 22), encourage us (Judges 7:13-15), reveal the future (Genesis 37:5-10), and instruct us (Matthew 1:20).
In speaking with women, I have heard several misconceptions about dreams. What dream have you pushed aside because of a misconception? It’s time to bring it back to the front burner. If you have one of these misconceptions about your dream, it’s time to let it go.
I don’t have a dream.
Yes, you do. God plants a dream in every woman’s heart. In the same way, He gave dreams to Jacob and Joseph, He has given one to you. You may have buried your dream, but it is time to dig it up.
I have a dream, but it’s not that important.
Of course, it is. Anything God plants in your heart is important – even if it is only important to you and to Him. The Lord has said that He has plans for your life. Never doubt that He will use you and your dream to bring Him glory.
I have a dream, but it’s up to God to make it happen.
God can do anything, but it is up to you to do something. If you take a look at the scriptures I cited above, God gave all these individuals dreams, however, they had to take the next step. He will open doors for you, but you still have to walk through them.
I had a dream, but it’s too late now.
No, it’s not. People are living a lot longer now, especially women. There used to be a time when 50 was considered old. Today, however, many women are starting new careers, writing books, obtaining degrees, and becoming business owners at 50 and above. As long as there is breath in your body, you have the time to do what God’s called you to do.
The Lord gives you a vision by placing a dream in your heart. When you discover what that dream is, you are on your way to discovering your purpose. The world needs what you have to offer. Do not leave this place without sharing.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
