Have you ever looked at another woman walking boldly in her calling and thought, “I must be doing it wrong”? Maybe you’ve questioned whether you missed something – some secret strategy, some divine download, or a special favor from heaven that somehow skipped you.
Let me lovingly remind you of something today: your calling is not meant to look like hers.
Yes, there are other Christian women called to teach, coach, write, lead, or serve. But no one else has your unique combination of gifts, life experiences, personality, and divine appointments. The way you walk out your calling is handcrafted by God. It’s not supposed to look like anyone else’s.
I’m not the only Life Purpose Coach in the world. But God didn’t call me to be like everyone else. He called me to show up in the way He designed me to – authentic, Spirit-led, and aligned with the purpose He placed inside me. That’s true for you, too.
The danger comes when we start looking around instead of looking up. When you start comparing your calling to someone else’s, you will always come up short, because you’re comparing your beginning to someone else’s middle or highlight reel. That’s not only unfair but it’s exhausting.
Galatians 6:4 (NLT) reminds us: “Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.”
God made you with intention. Ephesians 2:10 (NLT) says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
Did you catch that? You are God’s masterpiece. Not a copy. Not a knock-off. Not a duplicate. You are His one-of-a-kind work of art, created to carry out your assignment.
Comparison kills clarity. It clouds your vision. It distracts you from the very thing God is trying to do in and through you. Someone once said, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” I’d go further and say, comparison is the thief of everything – joy, peace, purpose, and progress.
So, what can you do when you catch yourself slipping into comparison?
Here’s a 4-step process to help you stop comparing your calling and start confidently living it out:
1. Recognize the Root
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” – Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)
Pay attention to when and why you compare. Is it when you’re scrolling social media? After you attend a conference? When you feel insecure? Awareness is the first step toward change.
2. Refocus Your Eyes
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…” – Hebrews 12:2 (NIV)
Shift your gaze from others to God. Spend time in prayer and in the Word. Ask Him to remind you of what He’s called you to do and how He wants you to walk it out.
3. Rehearse Your Identity
“You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit…” – John 15:16 (NLT)
Speak truth over yourself. Remind yourself of who you are in Christ and what He has equipped you to do. Write down scriptures and affirmations that reinforce your uniqueness and purpose.
4. Run Your Race
“Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” – Hebrews 12:1 (NLT)
Stay in your lane and run your race with endurance. The only race you’re responsible for is the one marked out for you. Let others inspire you, but don’t try to imitate them. You were not created to be a copy. You are called to be an original.
Listen, Woman of God, you don’t need to do it like her. You just need to do it like you – the Spirit-filled, purpose-driven woman God created you to be. The body of Christ doesn’t need more carbon copies. It needs women who are bold enough to show up as their whole selves and live their calling out loud.
Don’t let comparison keep you from your God-ordained lane. Choose clarity over comparison. Choose obedience over imitation. And choose joy over judgment.
God doesn’t make mistakes. And He didn’t start with you.
So, take a deep breath, lift your eyes to the One who called you, and walk boldly in the path He’s prepared just for you.
You are enough. You are equipped. You are called.
Now go live your calling in the way God called you to – your way.
