Who Told You That?

“Who told you that you were naked?”

That’s the question God asked Adam in the Garden of Eden after he and Eve had eaten from the forbidden tree. It wasn’t just about clothes. It was about shame. It was about identity. It was about believing something that contradicted what God said.

And today, God is still asking His daughters that same piercing question:

“Who told you that?”

Who told you that you’re not good enough?

Who told you that you’ll never measure up?

Who told you that you’re unworthy, unlovable, or unwanted?

Was it a parent who spoke more criticism than love?

A teacher who labeled you instead of lifting you?

An ex who broke your heart and tried to shatter your worth with it?

Or maybe it wasn’t just one person, but years of subtle messages that left a permanent imprint on your soul.

Let me say this with all the boldness and love I have: God did not say that. And if God didn’t say it, it’s a lie.

The Lie of Low Worth

Too many women of faith are walking around with hidden wounds. Outwardly, we smile and serve, but inwardly we struggle, crippled by the weight of words that were never meant for us. Labels like stupid, ugly, too much, and not enough have stuck like burrs to our souls.

But here’s the truth: Your identity is not defined by what people said about you – it’s defined by what God says about you.

What God Says About You

Let’s silence the lies with truth:

You are fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14)
Not average. Not a mistake. You are God’s masterpiece. Every part of you was crafted with intentionality and purpose.

You are chosen. (1 Peter 2:9)
You are not an afterthought. God handpicked you to be part of His royal family.

You are His workmanship. (Ephesians 2:10)
That means you are His handiwork, His masterpiece. You were created for good works, not to be torn down by harmful words.

You are deeply loved. (Romans 8:38-39)
Nothing – no past mistake, no painful word, no rejection – can separate you from His love.

Rewriting the Script

The enemy’s favorite tactic is deception. He wants you to believe the worst about yourself so you’ll never walk in the fullness of who God created you to be. But here’s your invitation to rise: Replace the lie with the truth.

Start catching those thoughts. Ask yourself, “Who told me that?” If it didn’t come from the mouth of God, it doesn’t belong in your heart.

Instead, speak what God says out loud. Write it down. Declare it every day if you have to. You are not who they said you are. You are who God says you are.

A Final Word for Your Heart

You don’t have to keep carrying the baggage of broken words. God wants to heal that wounded place. He wants to remind you of your true name: Beloved. Daughter. Chosen. Enough.

So, the next time that old lie whispers to you, rise up in holy boldness and ask, “Who told me that?” Then remind yourself what God has said instead.

Because when God speaks, chains break, shame lifts, and women rise – whole, holy, and walking confidently in their God-given identity.
