Are You Wearing Your Faith Shoes?

When I moved from Georgia to South Carolina several years ago, one of the first things I had to do was to get a new driver’s license. I never looked forward to going to the DMV but this time, the process ended up being pretty quick and painless.

After filling out the forms, the only other requirement was that I take and pass a vision test. No big deal, I thought.

So, I looked into the “vision testing machine,” threw my shoulders back and proudly read out the letters. I turned to start gathering my things to go take my new photo when the DMV examiner said, “Ms. Averils, there are 12 letters.” Oh-oh, I only saw nine!

She asked me if I wore glasses and I told her that I did. Once I put them on, I was able to see all 12 letters, pass my vision test, and get my new driver’s license. The only downside is that I’m now required to wear glasses whenever I drive.

This little adventure came to mind as I was speaking with a potential client recently. She’s going through a tough time right now because her life is not looking anything like what she really wants. So, she scheduled a Breakthrough Session with me for help. One of the things I shared with her was that what she is seeing right now, isn’t the end for her. She’s only looking at her present circumstances and they are only part of the picture – she’s not seeing the whole thing.

Just as I needed my glasses to see the entire vision test, she needed to put on her spiritual glasses to see past what’s happening in her life right now.

For Believers, your spiritual glasses is the Word of God.

Second Corinthians 5:7 says that “we walk by faith and not by sight.” So, if you are going through a difficult season, look at your circumstances using your eyes of faith and your spiritual glasses. Whatever roadblocks, stumbling blocks, or other blocks are thrown  your way, use them to see beyond right now.

Then you will be able to speak life over your season and your life.

Remind yourself:

The Lord is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? (Psalm 27:1)

Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. (Psalm 27:13)

I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me. He will send help from heaven to rescue me, disgracing those who hound me. My God will send forth his unfailing love and faithfulness. (Psalm 57:2-3)

I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! (Psalm 121:1-2)

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. (Psalm 139:16)

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (Romans 8:28)

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37-39)

For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13)

Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. (Hebrews 11:10)

Above all else, remember that you are a woman of faith. And women of faith walk by faith, not by sight.
