I remember sitting in my office one afternoon, staring out the window. From the outside looking in, I had it all together: a rewarding career, wonderful friends, a loving family, and a church community that meant the world to me. My life looked picture-perfect. And yet, deep inside, there was an ache, a restlessness that whispered, Is this it? Is this all God has for me?
That moment became a turning point. I knew there had to be more. And so, I did what I had always been taught to do: I prayed. And God, in His loving faithfulness, heard me. He reminded me of a truth I had forgotten: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV).
God had more for me – not just more accomplishments, but more purpose.
When Life Feels “Full But Empty”
So many of us reach a place where, on the outside, things seem fine, maybe even great, but inside, there’s a longing that we can’t quite explain. That longing is often God’s gentle nudge, calling us to step deeper into His plan for our lives. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10, NIV). That fullness is not found in success, comfort, or stability alone. It’s found in walking in alignment with God’s calling.
If you’ve ever felt like I did, grateful for your blessings but sensing something is missing, know this: you’re not ungrateful. You’re being awakened to more.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, “He has also set eternity in the human heart.” That means nothing temporal – no job, no title, no paycheck – can fully satisfy us. Only walking in God’s purpose can.
A Step-by-Step Framework to Discover What God Has for You
If you find yourself asking, “Is this all, God?” here’s a biblical roadmap to help you move forward:
1. Pray Honestly
Start where I did, by talking to God openly. Tell Him how you feel and ask Him to reveal His will. James 1:5 promises, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
2. Listen Intentionally
Prayer is a two-way conversation. Create space to hear God’s response, through scripture, through the Holy Spirit’s nudges, or through godly counsel. Remember what Jesus said in John 10:27: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
3. Reflect on Your Gifts and Passions
God rarely calls us to something that doesn’t connect with how He uniquely designed us. What are you good at? What makes your heart come alive? Romans 12:6 reminds us, “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.”
4. Seek Confirmation Through Scripture
God’s direction will always align with His Word. As you explore new opportunities, measure them against biblical truth. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
5. Take Faithful Action
Clarity often comes in motion. Don’t wait until every detail is clear, step out in faith. Hebrews 11:8 tells us that Abraham “obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.”
6. Trust God with the Process
Calling and assignment are revealed over time, not overnight. Trust that God will guide you one step at a time. Proverbs 3:5-6 reassures us: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Walking into More
When I prayed that prayer years ago, I had no idea where God would lead me. But I knew I couldn’t settle for a life that only looked good on the outside while dying on the inside. Today, I can testify that saying yes to God’s “more” has brought a deeper joy and purpose than I could have imagined.
So, if you’re asking, “Is this all, God?” know this: the question is not the end of your journey, it’s the beginning. God’s more may not look like a bigger paycheck, a better title, or worldly success. His “more” is about impact, obedience, and fulfillment that flows from Him.
Final Encouragement
Don’t ignore the holy restlessness inside of you. It’s God’s way of saying, “Daughter, I have more for you.”
Take the first step today. Pray. Listen. Reflect. Seek His Word. Move forward in faith. And watch as God unfolds a life that is not only good, but divinely purposed.
Because when you ask, “Is this all, God?” His answer is always: “No, my child. With Me, there is always more.”
